Modifications in the Speaking Section of the PTE Exam

PTE is emerging as the first choice in the process of going abroad. The reason behind is the fast and accurate conductance of exam and delivery of scores. The PTE exam is fully computer-based which explains the systematic test pattern just like the PTE practice.
Now and then some changes are made in the test. A lot has been said about the modifications in the pattern of the PTE exam as well as the PTE practiceBut are those rumours true? Should you rely on them? Well here is what that has been changed in the PTE test paper:

    1. Read Aloud:

The very first task type of the Speaking Section is the Read Aloud. Now, what could have been changed in it. There is a bit of changes seen in these task types.
Surely you will come across a few words that will be difficult to pronounce. There might be chances that you won't see the repeated questions from all these years. Pearson has added a new set of questions.
What needs to be done:
  • Be mentally prepared to do your best in this task type as it analyses your speaking skills.
  • You can practice several questions in the PTE practice.

    2. Repeat Sentences:

The Repeat Sentences have become a bit lengthy and tricky. Various difficult terminology and words comprise of the sentences. If you are not a native speaker, you will find the pace to be fast. This will surely cause some hindrance.
This task type demands that you speak exactly what you heard in the audio. To achieve a good score, you have to do exactly as it is specified in the guidelines. Also, you can listen to the audio-only once so be attentive.
What needs to be done:
  • You can listen to the TED talks and follow the accent of the different speakers.
  • Practice from the section-wise test of the PTE practice and improve the skills.

    3. Describe Image:

It used to happen when the questions of the Describe Image were repeated. But now the Pearson always changes the questions on a routine. Nothing is new about the questions of this task type.
There will be an image displayed on the screen and you will get 40 seconds to describe it. Your oral fluency and pronunciation matter the most.
What needs to be done:
  • Learn how to manage time.
  • Don’t go deep in analysing the image.
  • Avoid using templates.
  • Practice this task type from PTE practice.

    4. Retell Lecture:

This task type follows the same pattern as earlier. What has changed is the number of questions and a fresh set of questions has been added. Memorizing all previous year's questions won't help you out in this task type.
A total of 3-4 questions will be asked in this task type. the scores of this task type contributes to the Listening section as well. Any mistake here can affect the listening scores.
What needs to be done:
  • Change the method of practicing.
  • Practice a new set of questions from PTE practice.

    5. Answer Short Question:

The questions of this task type will be related to the day to day life or some general knowledge. A fresh set of questions are introduced. This is the simplest task type of the speaking section.
What makes it trickier is that either the answer will be correct or incorrect. There is no midway in-between.
What needs to be done:
  • Use your general knowledge.
  • Attempt the PTE practice to improve in this task type.
