PTE Academic test format includes 4 sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and
Writing. All of these sections consists of sub-tasks that evaluates different skills of
the test-taker.
You cannot ace the exam with understanding the exam format as there are
different tasks with varying difficulty levels that change in real-time. The PTE
practice test will help you to get acquainted with the test format.
Format of the PTE Academic Exam
The format of the PTE Academic exam consists of sub-tasks in the 4 sections.
PTE practice test also follows the same format as that of the PTE Academic
exam. Below is the test format:
The speaking section tests your listening, reading and speaking skills. There are 5 sub-tasks.
●Read Aloud: You need to loudly read the text that appears on the screen.
●Repeat Sentence: After hearing the sentence, you need to repeat it loudly.
●Describe Image: You need to describe the image that is shown on the screen.
●Re-Tell Lecture: You have to describe what is said in the lecture in
your own words.
●Answer Short question: You need to answer the question in one or a
few words.
2.Writing
The writing section tests the ability to write responses in English. It consists
of 2 sub-tasks.
●Summarize Written Text: You need to write a summary of the text that
appears on the screen
●Essay Writing: You need to write an essay on the given topic.
Before taking the PTE Academic exam, you should take the PTE practice test to
evaluate your performance.
3.Reading
This section tests your ability to read, write and listen. There are 5 types oftasks asked and around 15 – 20 questions are there in this section. The 5
types of tasks are:
●Multiple Choice, Choose Single Answer: In this task, you need to
choose one correct answer from the multiple options given to you
based on what you have read in the paragraph
. ●Multiple Choice, Choose Multiple Answers: In this task, there will be
more than one correct option that goes with what is given in the
paragraph. You need to select all the correct options
. ●Re-order Paragraphs: There are a bunch of sentences given to you.
You need to arrange them in the correct order by dragging and
dropping them on the right side.
●Reading Fill in the Blanks: You need to fill up the blanks with correct
words.
4.Listening
This section tests your listening and writing ability. It has questions that are based on the audio and video files. There are 8 sub-tasks in this section.●Summarize Spoken Text: You need to write a summary of the clip that
is played. It should be 50 – 70 words.
●Multiple Choice, Choose Multiple Answers: You need to choose
correct options that resemble what was played in the audio. There will
be more than one correct answer so choose all of them.
●Fill in the Blanks: Fill up the blanks with the write words while the
audio clip is being played in the background.
●Highlight Correct Summary: Based on the audio clip that is played,
you will have to choose the right summary.
●Multiple Choice, Choose Single Answer: Based on the audio that was
played, you will have to choose the right answer for what is asked.
●Select Missing Word: Fill the blank dos the audio clip with the correct words.
●Highlight incorrect words: From the recording, you will have to
highlight all the wrong words.
●Write from dictation: Write what is spoken in the box
